The standard we aim for
We aim for this site and our apps to meet WCAG 2.2 at level AA.
What we've checked on this site
- text contrast of at least 4.5 to 1 for the colour pairings the site uses for text, checked by an automatic test on every change
- footer links at least 44 px tall, and no sideways scrolling at 360 px wide, checked in a real browser
- the calculators and the edition chooser work with a keyboard alone, every box has a label, and results are read out as they change
- a skip link, the page language set for each version (US or UK English), and one main heading on each page
- a Lighthouse accessibility score of at least 95 on the home page, an app page and a calculator
What we check in the apps
When we build or change an app, we check:
- contrast in every colour scheme, light and dark
- tap targets of at least 44 px
- that everything works with a keyboard
- that reduced motion is respected
- that larger text sizes still fit
Known gaps
- Printables are PDFs made to print, so they may be hard to use with a screen reader.
- Our screen-reader testing is limited so far.
